The word ‘Chakra’ means ‘wheel/dish of light’ in Sanskrit and refers to the intricate system of energy centres within the body. There are many of these energy centres, but the focus tend to be on the seven major ones. Many people incorporate a series of meditative exercises along with corresponding mantras, crystals, incense sticks and hand-mudras to open, unblock and balance their energy centres. The seven major chakras are located along the spine.
1.) The Root/Base Chakra (Muladhara) is at the base of the spine and is considered the foundation of our energy system. It helps us to feel secure and grounded in our own bodies and connected the world we live in.
Someone with a healthy Root Chakra will feel courageous, confident, connected to the self and other and be present within their own body.
The colour associated with the Root Chakra is red.
2.) The Sacral (Svadisthana) Chakra is located is below the bellybutton and govern our sensuality, creativity and resilience. An individual with a well-balanced Sacral Chakra will be to process trauma healthily, express themselves creatively and enjoy intimacy.

3.) The Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra is located at the naval and reigns over our self-steem. It is often said that the stomach is the body’s second brain and a healthy solar plexus will lead to an improve ‘gut instinct’ as emotions and thoughts will be harmonised. A healthy solar plexus is also synonymous with a well-defined sense of self and good self-esteem.

4.) The Heart (Anahata) chakra governs over our ability to love and forgive ourselves and others so we’re able to move forward in life without dwelling on the past. A blocked heart chakra may lead to a person being trapped in loneliness and isolation as they cannot open themselves to receive or give love.

5.) The Throat (Vishuddha) Chakra is located in the throat and governs communication. If the Throat Chakra is healthy a person can be expected to truthfully and freely express themselves.

6.) Third Eye (Ajna) Chakra is the energy centre between your eyebrows and is in charge of clarity of mind, intuition and spirit communication. Although everyone is not a clairvoyant psychic, If the Third Eye Chakra is balanced you’ll be able to have an expanded sense of awareness and receive message from spirit in the form of visions or just ideas that seemingly pop out of nowhere. You’d also be able to make decisions more easily and swiftly due to clearer insight.

7.) The Crown (Sahasrara) Chakra is positioned on the top of your head and connects you to the Divine Source. Facilitates spiritual transformation and enlightenment. A healthy crown chakra ensures you are connected to the Most High and the Highest Good. In a way the Crown Chakra encapsulates the very essence of NAMASTE because you can recognise the piece of Divinity in yourself and allow yourself to see and acknowledge the Divine Light in others.
